April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and when I saw that pop up on my calendar, I was reminded of an April in 2012 when I started to see hand lettered signs all over Washington Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey, where I live. They warned of the dangers of distracted driving.
I then saw a news item that a Washington Township High School Senior, Nikki Kellenyi, had been killed in an accident on April 14. Said accident was attributed to distracted driving by the driver, although the police were never able to prove that definitively. I even wrote on this site about how there is only so much you can do to protect your kids.Read more...

"He said 'Thank you for getting me home safe,'" said Kellenyi, president of People Against Distracted Driving, or PADD. "That was worth a million dollars to me. If I save a life, it's worth it all.
He wishes his daughter, Nikki, didn't die on April 15, 2012, when the car she was a passenger in crashed into a pick-up truck on Pitman-Downer Road in Washington Township. He wishes she could've shined at her senior prom, held just weeks after her death, or start her freshman year at Rider University, where she was offered a full ride to study accounting, that fall.Read more...

Currently, we are donating "Stay Alive Don't Text and Drive" signs to schools and towns installing them along significant roadsides, billboards, businesses and in school exits, park exits and anywhere that they will impact motorists.
In addition, we are working to spread the awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, providing support for the families affected by such tragedies, and passing new laws to educate motorists, for stricter enforcement and punishment of distracted-driving-related offenses and working with schools to educate children of this new epidemic.
We appreciate any amount of contribution you can make. Your aid is invaluable and helps to keep the movement running!
