Binswanger Glass Teams with Nikki’s Foundation-PADD® to Raise Awareness on Distracted Driving Epidemic and Provides Donations for Prevention Awareness
March 16, 2015 – Memphis, TN: Binswanger Glass is pleased to announce the Company’s partnership with Nikki’s Foundation-People Against Distracted Driving to help raise awareness for drivers of all ages on the dangers of distracted driving, not only with the commonly associated text messaging behind the wheel but with all the various kinds of distracted driving.
Effective April 1 until July 31, 2015, partial proceeds from every Binswanger Glass windshield replacement will be donated to Nikki’s Foundation-PADD®. Binswanger will also be raising awareness of PADD and distracted driving through social media and at the Company’s 65 locations as a reminder to employees, customers and drivers around the country of Nikki's story and the dangers of distracted driving.
“Binswanger Glass is committed to safety with every windshield, shower or window our certified technicians install,” stated Norm Plotkin, CEO of Memphis, TN based Binswanger Glass. “With more than 140 years in business, Binswanger Glass has the experience to safely provide our customers with the best glass products available. Now we are reaching out to educate the public about the serious epidemic that is distracted driving. Binswanger is proud to assist PADD in its Campaign to Eliminate Distracted Driving®, especially texting while driving. These deaths are 100% preventable and the team at Binswanger Glass would like to support Nikki’s Foundation-PADD® to achieve their goal of making the world a safer place for our loved ones while supporting victims and survivors.”
Founded in 2012, PADD is the creation of Mike Kellenyi in memory of his 18-year-old daughter, Nikki, who tragically lost her life in a car crash as a result of a distracted driver, one month prior to her high school prom. PADD, an official 501(c)(3) charitable organization, works locally and nationally to spread the awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, provide support for families affected by such tragedies, and pass new laws to educate motorists for stricter enforcement and punishment of distracted driving-related offenses. Within two years, it has become one of the fastest growing non-profit groups in the country.
“Binswanger’s donation will go to work instantly to help save lives and serve people through PADD's® vital victim services and awareness programs provided at no cost to communities throughout America—programs that would not be possible without donations from supporters such as Binswanger Glass and their customers,” stated Nikki’s dad, Mike Kellenyi.
According to statistics provided by PADD, 23% of all motor vehicle accidents (1.3 million crashes) involved cell phones. In addition, text messaging while driving makes an accident 23 times more likely, with the longest eyes-off-the-road time of all distracted driving activities. Even more concerning, 77% of young adults are very or somewhat confident that they can safely text while driving.
People Against Distracted Driving® is the nation’s largest growing nonprofit working to protect families from distracted driving. PADD also supports distracted driving victims and survivors at no charge, serving anyone who needs help 24 hours a day: 1-234-738-DTAD (3823) or www.padd.org.
